despair

The only thing better than controlling an awesome character in a game is making that character ride an awesome mount. The years have been filled with many to remember, and we've selected some of our favorites (from giant shoes to undead horses) to share with you after the break!

Despair (Darksiders II)
What's more terrifying than Death himself? That would have to be Death's rotting horse, Despair (seen above). Just imagine trotting through town on this ghastly steed.

skyrim

Dragons (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
It will probably be awhile before we see any dragon riding action in HBO's Game of Thrones, but there are other way to get your giant flying lizard fix.

epona

Epona (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Nintendo 64's "Ocarina of Time" was the first Zelda game that let players ride a horse to travel across Hyrule. Virtual carrots had never been more important.

yoshi

Yoshi (Super Mario World)
Following his introduction in "Super Mario World" on SNES, Yoshi quickly became a staple of the Mario franchise and is now one of the most beloved residents of the Mushroom Kingdom.

four_horses

Four Horses of the Apocalypse (Red Dead Redemption)
Introduced as part of the "Undead Nightmare" DLC, the Four Horses of the Apocalypse – War, Famine, Pestilence and Death – weren't so easy to catch, but breaking them paid off big.

warthog

Warthog (Halo)
This futuristic take on a military Jeep has become an iconic vehicle among the gaming community. The first time we piled our multiplayer buddies in there we knew we were in for a good time.

kuribos_shoe

Kuribo's Shoe (Super Mario Bros. 3)
The rarest of all the power-ups in the Mario franchise, Kuribo's Shoe (Goomba's Shoe in later releases) first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3 and most recently appeared in Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

the_mule

El Señor (Red Dead Redemption)
Horses were obviously the preferred mode of transportation, but "Red Dead Redemption" started players off with a mule in multiplayer... It was glorious.

argo

Argo (Shadow of the Colossus)
Argo from Shadow of the Colossus tossed main character Wander off her back as a bridge collapsed beneath her hooves... 'Nuff said.

rambi

Rambi the Rhinoceros (Donkey Kong Country)
There was nothing more relieving than finding Rambi in Donkey Kong Country for SNES. The rideable Rhinoceros could plow through just about every enemy, making short work of many levels.

So, those are some of our favorite mounts. What are your's?
